Dominic Solanke has made an admission about his England debut back in 2017 after breaking back into the Three Lions set-up this week.
Solanke was just starting out in his career when he won his first cap, aged 19, against Brazil. The fact that he won his first cap so young is proof that he was always highly rated by those in and around the game.
However, his career has not been straightforward as he has had to battle his way back to the top after being let go by both Chelsea and Liverpool.
The 26-year-old undoubtedly deserves the call-up on the back of the brilliant season he had in Bournemouth last term and the impressive start he has made to life at Tottenham.
When asked about his memories of his first England cap, the striker has now told England football’s official website: “Making my senior debut for England is something I’ll never ever forget. I think that’s what every kid dreams of.
“Not just becoming a footballer but representing your country is a whole other level. Especially against Brazil at home, at Wembley. It couldn’t really get much better than that. That’s definitely one of the highlights of my career.
Solanke confessed that while his journey has had some ups and downs so far, he would not change it because it has helped him become the footballer he is today.
The Tottenham man admitted that things are now finally coming together for him as he looks to make his mark at the highest level.
He added: “I’ve had quite a journey in football. Everyone’s journey is different and I wouldn’t change it. I’ve had a lot of ups and a lot of downs as well but I think that’s made me who I am today on and off the pitch.
“I’m grateful for everything and hopefully I can carry on my form. I’m improving all the time and I feel like, at the moment, I’m full of confidence. I feel like my game’s improved a lot and I’m at that point in my career where it’s all starting to come together.”
