Opta have crunched the numbers after the first two games of the Europa League and have made a big claim about Tottenham’s chances.
Tottenham have started their campaign in perfect fashion, with two wins in two matches against Qarabag and Ferencvaros, scoring five goals in total while conceding just one.
What will particularly please Ange Postecoglou is the circumstances of those wins, with Spurs playing with ten men for nearly the entire game against Qarabag while fielding an extremely young team against the Hungarian side.
Tottenham will be eyeing direct progression to the final 16, with teams finishing in the top eight of the Europa League table getting that luxury.
After running the numbers, Opta Analyst have now made Spurs the favourites to win the Europa League.
The Lilywhites have been given a 15.1 per cent chance of lifting the trophy in San Mames on May 21, just beating out Lazio and Porto.
Spurs have been given a 95 per cent chance of making it to the round of 16, a 66.2 per cent chance of making the quarterfinal, a 43.8 per cent chance of making the semifinals and a 26.9 per cent chance of making it to the showpiece final.
Tottenham have not tasted silverware since lifting the Carabao Cup back in 2008.
However, Postecoglou has made it clear that his goal is to end that 16-year trophy drought, with the Europa League presenting a golden opportunity to do just that.
With Champions League teams no longer dropping into the competition in the new format, Spurs would fancy their chances of going all the way.
