Paul Merson believes that, despite their excellent form of late, Tottenham will not be able to make it six wins from six matches against Brighton.
At the start of the season, Spurs struggled to turn their good performances into results, but they have well and truly turned a corner over the last few weeks.
The North London side have won five in five matches across all competitions, and they head to the Amex Stadium full of confidence.
However, Merson has now provided one reason why Ange Postecoglou’s men will fail to return from the South Coast with all three points.
The former Arsenal midfielder suggested that the Seagulls will pose a much tougher test to Tottenham than Man Utd did at Old Trafford last week. The pundit predicted the two sides to play out an entertaining, high-scoring draw on Sunday.
Merson told Sportskeeda: “Tottenham were outstanding the other day against Manchester United. Tough game to pick this one. Brighton actually went after both Arsenal and Chelsea, even though they lost to the Blues last weekend.
“Without playing down Tottenham’s win at Old Trafford, I must admit that Manchester United are not Brighton. So you could even argue this is a tougher game.
“If Tottenham get four points from Manchester United and Brighton, that’s not a bad start for them. This is a hard football match and I’m going for a draw.”
Prediction: Brighton 2-2 Tottenham.
Brighton under Fabian Hurzeler are a front-foot side and will commit bodies forward in attack. Tottenham will thus be able to hurt the home side if they can get through their initial press.
So far this season, every team that has looked to take Spurs on in their own game has struggled, which is why Postecoglou will be confident that his side can emerge with all the points from the Amex Stadium.
