Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly eyeing a move for an up-and-coming Portuguese centre-back, who is thought to have also caught the eye of their London rivals.
Ange Postecoglou only has three senior centre-backs at his disposal at the moment in Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Radu Dragusin.
Although the Australian has the option of using Ben Davies in that role if needed, he might be keen to reinforce that part of the pitch when the transfer window opens in January
It has now emerged that Spurs are studying a potential move for a Benfica man, who is making waves in the Portuguese top flight.
According to CaughOffside, Tottenham are now eyeing a potential move for Tomas Araujo, whose reputation has blossomed since he broke into the Benfica side last season.
It is revealed that the 22-year-old is also on the radars of their London rivals, Arsenal and Chelsea.
In fact, it is claimed that all three clubs sent scouts to watch the youngster in action in Benfica’s recent matches against Boavista and Gil Vicente, with the reports said to be hugely positive.
CaughtOffside point out that at the moment, Araujo is valued by Benfica at around €20m (£16.6m), thus making him a cut-price option for Premier League sides.
However, it is unclear if the Primeira Liga side are open to cashing in on the young defender during the January window.
The publication adds that if the centre-back maintains his current standard of performance, his value could increase substantially by next summer.
