Micky van de Ven produced an imperious performance against Manchester United, with his numbers painting a picture of the nature of the game.
It is hard to believe that Van de Ven is just 23 years of age and has been in the Premier League for just over a year.
The centre-back has already established a reputation as one of the best in the league in his position and his stock continues to rise with each passing game.
Van de Ven produced what was arguably the assist of the season so far in just the third minute of the clash at Old Trafford, winning the ball deep in Tottenham’s own half and sprinting past five or six United players before squaring the ball from the touchline for Brennan Johnson to tap home.
Even apart from that assist, the Dutchman was quite flawless, with his metrics looking extremely impressive on WhoScored and Fotmob.
Van de Ven had a pass completion rate of 96.7 per cent, with 88 of his 91 passes finding their intended target.
The Dutchman also made five passes into the final third, had three touches in the opposition box and got two shots away. Van de Ven also made that one key pass across the face of goal to assist Johnson after a lung-busting run.
His defending was also imperious as he was hardly troubled by the United forwards, making one block, one clearance and four recoveries.
These stats demonstrate that Van de Ven actually had more to do in Tottenham’s attacking third rather than their defensive third, with United hardly offering much of a threat going forward.
That shows how dominant the away side were even before the Red Devils were reduced to ten men, with Erik Ten Hag’s men struggling to even lay a glove on the Lilywhites for much of the game.
