Dejan Kulusevski’s numbers from Tottenham’s win at Old Trafford make for extremely impressive reading, even when you take out his goal.
The biggest tactical change Ange Postecoglou has made at the start of this season is moving Kulusevski to the middle and partnering him alongside James Maddison as a number eight.
The move has worked a treat, with Swede’s work-rate, enterprise, and running power making Spurs a lot more threatening going forward and also much better at counter-pressing and winning the ball high up the pitch.
Kulusevski was the start of the show at Old Trafford as Tottenham bulldozed the Red Devils and emerged with a comfortable 3-0 win.
Kulusevski not only scored the crucial goal at the start of the second half that helped Tottenham secure the result but he was also the Lilywhites’ main creator on Sunday.
Whoscored revealed that the Swede made an impressive 9 key passes in the game, had a passing accuracy of 89.5 per cent and was dispossessed just 3 times in the game.
This makes sense because BBC Sport reported that Kulusevski broke a 21-year record for chances created by an opposition player at Old Trafford.
Kulusevski also chipped in defensively, with one interception, two clearances and one blocked shot in the game.
Meanwhile, FotMob gave the 24-year-old a match rating of 8.73, designating him the ‘star of the match’. In addition to the above stats, they reveal that the Spurs man had five touches in the opposition box and made three passes into the final third.
Tottenham have shown this season that they will punish anyone who tries to take them on at their own game as the likes of Brentford and Man Utd have found out.
With the front three, and Maddison and Kulusevski behind them, Spurs have too many players who can hurt the opposition if given time and space.
If Postecoglou’s men can improve their final third play against low-blocks, they will be a formidable side this season.
