Luka Vuskovic is set to have a bright future, and Spurs fans are already getting excited before he even arrives. Now, the young defender has delivered another brilliant performance for Westerlo, including an amazing assist.
Croatian wonderkid Luka Vuskovic is spending the year with Belgian side KVC Westerlo, before finally linking up with Tottenham next summer once he is 18-years-old.
Spurs snapped up the exciting centre-half last summer, but have been made to wait two years before he can be eligible to officially arrive at the club.
Having spent last season on loan in Poland, Vuskovic is now impressing in Belgium, and he just helped his team secure an important win over Standard Liege.
Picking the ball up on the halfway line, Vuskovic runs at the Liege defenders, and weaves inside one of them, before laying off a wonderfully weighted left-footed pass to his teammate, Matija Frigan, to dispatch the finish and win the game.
It’s a run and pass very reminiscent of Micky van de Ven‘s incredible assist earlier this season, where he ran from the edge of his own box before playing in Heung-min Son against Everton.
That takes his tally this season to two goals and one assist in nine matches — not bad for a 17-year-old defender.
Aside from that stunning assist, Vuskovic had a top game, and he has the statistics to prove it.
According to Fotmob data, Vuskovic completed 76% of his passes in the game (22 out of 29), made two passes into the final third, and had one touch in the opposition box.
Defensively, he made a whopping seven clearances, three interceptions, and completed five ball recoveries. Vuskovic also won two out of three of his ground duels on the night.
It is unclear what Ange Postecoglou will be looking to do with Vuskovic next season. The likelihood is he will be sent on loan again, probably to somewhere in England so he can acclimatise to the demands of the game here. But, it would be very exciting to see him among the Spurs first-team sooner rather than later.
