Micky van de Ven has insisted that Tottenham Hotspur are a better side than they were last season, admitting that he and his teammates want to get their hands on a trophy.
It has been over a decade and a half since the Lilywhites last lifted a major piece of silverware and that is something that Ange Postecoglou will be determined to change.
The Australian boasts of an outstanding record in his second season at clubs, but the challenges he faces in the Premier League are bigger than any he has encountered in the past.
Postecoglou has already shown signs this season that he is willing to tweak things to make Tottenham a more potent side, and Van de Ven believes that Spurs are now much more dangerous going forward as they can create chances in several different ways.
The centre-back told The Standard: “I think we are more dangerous this year. Like the gaffer has said, we can play down the side or through the middle, and two or three balls from Cuti [Romero] to Maddison were really dangerous. I think there are more threats from us this year.”
The former Wolfsburg made it clear that he and his teammates have firmly set their sights on winning silverware and creating history.
He added: “We need to reach another level this season. Last year we were fifth, so it was a good season, but we want more. We want to win a trophy, that’s clear.”

The one thing that was noticeable against both Leicester and Everton is the amount of through balls over the top that the midfielders and centre-backs played, which is not something we saw a lot from Tottenham last season.
That shows that Ange and his coaching staff have seen how teams are setting up against them and are prepared to tweak their tactics in order to hurt them in different ways.
