According to GiveMeSport, Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to be patient in their pursuit of Hayden Hackney after learning that Middlesbrough do not wish to sell the midfielder during the current transfer window.
Spurs have already raided the Championship for one promising young midfielder in Archie Gray and it has now emerged that they also have their eye on another EFL starlet.
Hackney, who has garnered a reputation as one of the best young players in English football’s second tier, is said to be on the Lilywhites’ radar.
GiveMeSport back up what we have heard from other sources over recent days by stating that Spurs watched the 22-year-old in action in Boro’s first two Championship games of the season.
In fact, the outlet goes on to say that the midfielder has been on Tottenham’s radar for a long time, with their interest in the player described as ‘genuine.
However, Spurs have now learned that Boro are not willing to sanction the sale of their academy graduate as they are eyeing a promotion push this season.
As a result, Ange Postecoglou’s men are reportedly ready to play the ‘waiting game’ and go back in for Hackey in the next couple of transfer windows.
The publication adds that Tottenham view the young Englishman as someone who can be Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s long-term replacement.

Hackey is much closer to a finished product than the likes of Bergvall and Gray (even though he arguably does not have as high a ceiling as the Spurs pair).
I can see Tottenham laying the groundwork for a deal to sign the Boro star next summer.
