Here’s how we rated the Tottenham Hotspur players following the 4-0 win over Everton in the Premier League this afternoon.
Ange Postecoglou’s side were 2-0 up at half-time thanks to a fine goal from Yves Bissouma and a more opportunistic effort from Heung-min Son after an error from Jordan Pickford in the Everton goal.
In the second half, Tottenham continued their dominance in possession, created plenty of chances, and punished Everton further with a Cristian Romero headed goal. By the time Son bagged his second, the game was long gone for the Toffees.
Guglielmo Vicario: Everton did not manage to test the Spurs keeper sufficiently, and it ended up being a very quiet afternoon indeed for Vicario. 6.
Pedro Porro: Nullified the threats from Everton out wide, and offered plenty going forward, too. Nothing remarkable, but a strong performance from the full-back. 7.
Cristian Romero: Struggled a little in the first half with some sloppy passing, but made up for it in the second 45 with a wonderfully taken header on his 100th appearance for the club; a goal that effectively killed the game. 7.
Micky van de Ven: A flawless performance from the Dutchman, who was all over the Everton attackers. Showed his pace a number of times to track back and cover. Pulled out an unbelievable assist for the fourth goal, carrying the ball the length of the pitch before laying in Sonny. 10.
Destiny Udogie: Did really well to keep Everton’s attackers quiet, carried the ball forward with composure, and did not put a foot wrong all game. 7.
Yves Bissouma: What a performance today, and how he needed it, too. A superbly taken goal will be the headline, but Bissouma pulled the strings in the middle of the park and deserves lots of credit for stepping up and proving his worth today. 8.
James Maddison: Missed a couple of good chances, and definitely wasn’t as effective when playing deeper. But, when he was moved forward into the 10 role, he was able to have more of an impact with his passing. A great corner for the third goal. 6.
Dejan Kulusevski: A good performance from the Swede as he played through the middle and provided a constant source of creativity for Spurs. Looks far more effective in that number 10 role than he does out wide. 7.
Brennan Johnson: Wasn’t involved enough at all, and he has to start getting himself in the game more. His passes were off the mark, he miscontrolled a few balls, and it ends up being a disappointing display from the Welshman. 5.
Heung-Min Son: A nicely taken goal in the first half. Showed excellent ball control to win a dangerous free-kick in the second half. Applied a brilliant finish for his second goal. Looked a lot more dangerous when he came out wide. 7.
Wilson Odobert: A solid debut. Made some exciting runs, delivered some enticing crosses, but struggled to assert himself the longer the game went on. Plenty of promise though. 7.
Substitutes:
Pape Matar Sarr: Introduced after 65 minutes to replace Dejan Kulusevski. The game was over as a contest when he was brought in, but he did enough to maintain that control in the middle of the park. 6.
Richarlison: Introduced after 65 minutes to replace Wilson Odobert. Barely got a sniff up top. You could argue he wasn’t being supplied with any meaningful balls at that point, but needed to put more into the press. 5.
Archie Gray: Replaced Yves Bissouma with just under 20 minutes to go. Slotted into the midfield without any issues, but didn’t do anything outstanding (not that he needed to). 6.
Djed Spence: Replaced Destiny Udogie with just under 20 minutes to go. Very little to do as Everton appeared to have given up by that point. But, looked comfortable enough on the left side once again and handled a couple of potentially dangerous situations well. 7.
Lucas Bergvall: On for James Maddison with 10 minutes left. Barely any time to make an impact. Showed some energy in the press at least. 6.
