It is a special weekend for one Tottenham Hotspur player as the Everton game will be his 100th appearance for the Lilywhites, and Ange Postecoglou has hailed the star man as an ‘absolute winner’ who is vitally important to his team.
Cristian Romero is highly likely to start the game against Everton barring any disaster between now and the kick-off, and it will be his 100th game for Spurs.
The Argentine defender has gone from strength to strength since arriving in North London back in 2021, and is now considered one of the best centre-halves in the world.
He is a key figure in Postecoglou‘s squad, too, and is the current vice-captain of the side. So, it’s no surprise then that the Spurs boss has been waxing lyrical about his star defender.
He said (via Vavel): “Outstanding. Obviously, with all these kinds of things, you have an image of a player from afar. Before I got here, I thought he was going to be a really important player to me. He’s such a fantastic centre-back for club and country.
“Being here now, watching him, the way he trains, the way he plays, unbelievably strong mindset [and] he’s an absolute winner in everything he does. He’s been really important. He will be really important moving forward, because he is one of the players within this squad that has achieved things from a team perspective.”
Postecoglou wasn’t done there, though. He went on to discuss Romero’s impact for club and country, and backed the defender to put in another top performance this weekend.
“I’ve always said those kinds of things are transferable. He’s won a World Cup and Copa America. I think he’s a strong influence in the group — and it’s great he plays his 100th game tomorrow. I know he’ll perform at the level he always does; he’s very consistent,” he added.

I would argue Romero is our most valuable player overall, and given his age, he can become our most important and influential figure for years to come. We should be building everything around him, to be honest (as long as he doesn’t keep losing his man like he did with Jamie Vardy on Monday).
