Yves Bissouma could have a chance to redeem himself in the eyes of Ange Postecoglou this weekend, but it is still up for debate as to whether he will be given the nod to start against Everton.
After being recorded using laughing gas on social media prior to the start of the season, Bissouma was suspended by the club and missed the game against Leicester City on Monday.
Postecoglou made it clear that the midfielder would need to earn the trust of his coaches and teammates again in the fallout of the incident (Football.London).
But, with Rodrigo Bentancur suffering a concussion in the Leicester game, the Uruguayan will be ruled out this weekend, meaning someone will have to step in.
Speaking to the press (via Football.London) ahead of the weekend’s action, Postecoglou suggested Bissouma will be allowed to play again, but remained coy as to whether he will select the Malian.
He said: “Biss is available but we’ve got some options there. The whole idea of trying to bulk up the squad is for these situations. He’s available for selection. The bridge building continues.”
Clearly, Postecoglou believes the midfielders he acquired this summer, Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall, could be the answer to his problems for the Everton game.
The pair both made their competitive Spurs debuts on Monday and have impressed since joining the club this summer.
So much so, in fact, that the pair have reportedly altered Tottenham’s transfer plans this summer, with the club not believed to be looking for a new number 6 anymore (Standard).

My heart tells me we should give Archie Gray or Lucas Bergvall the start alongside Pape Matar Sarr, and let them flourish.
But my head tells me we should be cautious and bring Bissouma back into the fold to offer some experience in the middle of the park. I wouldn’t be surprised if it is one of the young players, though.
