According to HITC, Wolves are now confident of beating Tottenham and other Premier League clubs to the signing of Nantes centre-back Bastian Meupiyou.
18-year-old Meupiyou has only made one senior appearance for Nantes but he is widely seen as a potential future star at the French club.
The teenager is said to be attracting interest from across the channel, with Spurs, Everton and West Ham all said to be keen on securing the defender’s signature.
However, HITC say that it is Wolves who are now in pole position to win the race for Meupiyou after submitting a £4.3m offer for the player.
It is explained that on the back of the Midlands side’s offer, the centre-back was left out of Nantes’ 0-0 draw with Toulouse, potentially signalling that a move to Molineux is around the corner.
Ouest France offer more context to Meupiyou’s exclusion from the squad, pointing out that he has just one year left on his deal but has refused to sign a new contract, thus forcing Nantes to consider cashing in on him.
L’Equipe also report that Wolves have agreed a fee of around €5m with Nantes to sign the teenager, so it appears an announcement is close.
Spurs Web Opinion
Despite suggestions to the contrary by some sources, I do not expect Tottenham to make any more defensive additions before the end of the month.
In Romero, Van de Ven, Dragusion and Davies, Postecoglou will be happy with the options he has at centre-back.
