Ange Postecoglou praised Dominic Solanke for his overall performance on his Tottenham debut but remarked that the striker will be disappointed that he did not get on the scoresheet.
Unsurprisingly, Tottenham’s record signing got the nod to start against Leicester City, picked to lead the line ahead of Richarlison, who is still working his way up to full fitness.
The Englishman was extremely lively throughout the game, showcasing just why Postecoglou was keen to bring him through the door.
Not only did he press the opposition defenders and the goalkeeper tirelessly throughout the game but he also showcased his intelligence and technical quality, combining smartly with his fellow attackers.
Solanke also showed quick feet in and around the box and impressed with his movement, getting into some good positions.
Unfortunately, the 26-year-old could not convert any of the chances that came his way, with Tottenham having to settle for a 1-1 draw despite dominating large parts of the encounter.
When asked what he thought of Solanke’s performance, Postecoglou told Football.London: “Yeah, he was good. He worked hard for the team. He had a couple of chances.
“He will be disappointed he didn’t do better with and the overall performance of everyone was OK, but it doesn’t mean anything if we don’t turn that performance into outcomes.
“We had similar issues last year and if we’re going to get to the next level as a team and bridge the gap to the top sides, it is an area of the game we need to improve.”

The most important thing is the fact that Solanke is making the right sort of runs and getting chances.
There is no doubt that goals will come for the former Cherries star, who showed plenty of promising signs with his all-round play.
