Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge has said that there is nothing advanced regarding the future of Eberechi Eze, suggesting that the Tottenham target might remain at Crystal Palace for one more season.
If some reports over the last couple of months are to be believed, Eze has been identified as one of Tottenham’s top summer targets by Ange Postecoglou as the Australian attempts to build a side that is capable of challenging the best teams in the Premier League.
The latest to make that claim was Fabrizio Romano, who revealed a few days ago that the Lilywhites are continuing to assess a move for the 25-year-old as they are keen to bolster their attack (GiveMeSport).
However, Tottenham are also expected to face competition from Manchester City for the England international, with The Mirror (23/07/24 – back page) even claiming recently that a move to the Etihad is the player’s top preference.
Bridge has now played down those transfer rumours, insisting that the Palace star is yet to express a clear intention to leave Selhurst Park this summer.
The journalist has now told GiveMeSport: “There’s nothing forward in terms of [Eberechi] Eze. I know I’ve seen reports about Manchester City if Kevin de Bruyne was to leave, but Pep Guardiola has come out and said that’s not happening.
“I know Tottenham like Eze, but my understanding is that there is nothing close for anything in terms of him. He hasn’t – as it stands – come out and said he wants to move.
“Perhaps another season at Palace might do him some good, being the key player there, and then see where he goes with the De Bruyne’s and other key players maybe leaving top clubs. Son Heung-min is getting a year older, and maybe just one more season at Palace would do him some good.”

It has seemed clear for a while now that Palace would insist on Eze’s huge release clause being met in order to let him go this summer.
There is no indication yet that Tottenham or some other side would be willing to pay that clause, which by many accounts, is structured in a complicated manner.
