According to Ben Jacobs, Brentford have now dropped their valuation for Ivan Toney, thus handing a major boost to Tottenham Hotspur and Man United.
Toney continues to be mooted as one of Tottenham’s top targets, with Ange Postecolgou thought to be keen on adding more firepower to his forward line ahead of the start of the new season.
The latest outlet to make this claim was The Mirror, who revealed a couple of days ago that the Lilywhites are studying a potential approach for the England international.
The report revealed that while Brentford valued their star man at £80m at the start of the summer, they are now ready to accept a lower fee due to the lack of interest in the striker so far.
However, it was explained that Ange Postecoglou’s men might have to cash in on Richarlison before pushing ahead with a move for the 28-year-old.
Jacobs has now explained that Toney is willing to run his contract down and leave the Gtech Community Stadium on a free transfer next summer.
As a result, the Bees are now thought to have significantly reduced their asking price, with a bid of around £45m-£50m now expected to be enough to secure the centre-forward.
The journalist named Manchester United as the other potential suitor for Toney over the coming weeks.
Jacobs told talkSPORT: “My understanding is that Toney is not against free agency in 2025. Because it might open up a big club who feel there is a bargain to be had by bringing him in on a free transfer.
“If he is to go this summer, it’s understood that Brentford would be looking for somewhere in the region of £45-50 million. Manchester United and Spurs are the two clubs to watch.”

With Man Utd having signed Joshua Zirkzee and already having Rasmus Hojlund among their ranks, I do not think they will be too desperate to sign another number nine.
It does appear as if the path is clearing for Spurs to push ahead with a move for Toney this summer.
