Tottenham Hotspur reveal two key squad number changes ahead of the 2024/25 Premier League season, and fans will get to see them in action pretty soon.
Tottenham Hotspur flew out to Asia today ahead of their pre-season tour of Japan and Korea, and it looks like there are some new shirt numbers on board.
Players typically wear placeholder numbers during pre-season if they are expected to change ahead of the new campaign, much like James Maddison did before taking Harry Kane’s old number 10.
Spurs have confirmed a couple of early changes this season though, and we will likely see them in action over the coming weeks against the likes of Vissel Kobe, K League All Stars and Bayern Munich.
Tottenham took to X (Twitter) today to announce that Guglielmo Vicario and Destiny Udogie have both been given new numbers ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
Vicario, unsurprisingly, has upgraded from number 13 to number 1, which is traditional for a first-choice goalkeeper. Tottenham’s number one was taken by Hugo Lloris until he departed in January.
However, the 13 didn’t stay vacant for long, as Destiny Udogie has snapped it up straight away. Surprisingly, the Italian didn’t opt for number 3, despite Sergio Reguilon being left out of the pre-season tour to explore a potential transfer away.
Spurs Web Opinion:
Maybe Udogie has a certain affinity with the number 13.
He wore it at Udinese and Verona, so it has probably become his lucky squad number, even with the 3 available.
