Fresh off signing his new 5-year contract, Will Lankshear’s performances in training earned him a start over two other talented Spurs strikers this week.
Much like Harry Kane, Will Lankshear found himself released from the Arsenal academy and in need of a fresh chance at a young age. Fast forward to 2024 and Ange Postecoglou brings on the striker in the second half against Hearts, and he buries a chance that will look all too familiar to Spurs and Kane fans.
The 2023/24 Premier League 2 Player of the Season has been catching the eye of Spurs coaches at Hotspur Way, and it’s understood that Lankshear has been the most impressive young striker in training, surpassing the likes of Alejo Veliz and Dane Scarlett (Football London).
Kissing the club badge after scoring, Lankshear will have done plenty to adorn himself to the Spurs faithful, and his game looks so familiar to Tottenham’s former number 10, Harry Kane.
Football London report that he was set for a loan move to plenty of interested League One and Championship clubs; however, if he keeps impressing in training as he is, he could be in line to go on Tottenham’s pre-season tour this summer instead.
It remains to be seen whether Spurs sign a new centre-forward this summer, and whether Heung-min Son will be used as a number nine or a left winger by Postecoglou.
However, if Spurs remain short on options, and other players like Veliz head out on loan, it doesn’t seem inconceivable that Lankshear could find himself as the number three striker choice for Tottenham, with four competitions to play next season.
Spurs Web Opinion
Lankshear is better off staying at Spurs for some European and cup minutes as he needs to work towards his club-trained status.
On the other hand, someone like Veliz is not club-trained and is already ready for a top-flight side.
