Tottenham Hotspur have re-appointed former fitness coach Nathan Gardiner in the role of Head of Sports Science, according to Training Ground Guru.
Gardiner spent fifteen years at Tottenham in what was initially fitness-based roles before working his way up to a Technical Co Ordinator and Head of Sports Science position with the North London club.
A move to Fulham took place in October 2020 where he worked as a first-team coach while Scott Parker was in charge and departed the Cottagers when Parker headed to Bournemouth.
Gardiner will take over from current Head of Sports Science Sam Pooley, who is leaving after a ten-year stint with Tottenham
He found himself in the headlines back in November 2015 when midfielder Andros Townsend was involved in a furious row with Gardiner, when the midfielder pushed the coach in the chest after being told to increase his efforts in a post-match warm-down at White Hart Lane after being an unused substitute in a Premier League fixture against Aston Villa.
Townsend was subsequently fined for the incident and was dropped from the Tottenham first-team squad by Mauricio Pochettino, leaving the club just a matter of months later; an altercation he later admitted that he regretted (Football.London).

Sometimes, having fresh blood in senior backroom roles can be good to bring in new ideas and techniques to help benefit Ange Postecoglou’s players.
The club have been very unlucky with injuries this season and there is no doubt that behind the scenes, the staff are doing everything possible to ensure that there are no more unexpected muscular issues before the end of the campaign at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
