Jon Stewart slammed former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy on "The Daily Show" on Monday for labeling Donald Trump a "truth teller," saying the former president's supporters are imagining some "bizarro" version of him.
The comedian played clips of Trump backers saying why they are in his camp, including that he supporters workers and free speech — before contrasting those with Trump's own remarks undercutting them. Then he turned to claims that Trump, who has made unsubstantiated and baseless claims throughout his time in politics, tells it like it is.
"Are you f‑‑‑ing kidding me right now?" Stewart shouted after a clip of Ramaswamy calling Trump a "truth teller" during a previous Fox News interview flashed on the screen.
"He is a truth teller?" Stewart asked incredulously.
"The Daily Show" then played snippets from the presidential debate last month of Trump's false claims that Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, are eating residents' pets.
"We find ourselves not in a dilemma, but in a bit of a conundrum. The qualities and policies that people profess to be what they admire and love about former President Trump don't seem to be an accurate reflection of said former president," Stewart said. "It's as though they've created a fictional character, a bizarro Trump."
"It makes you wonder: What country does Donald Trump think he's running to lead?" Stewart asked.
Reached for comment, the Trump campaign called Stewart "a washed up nobody who has no idea what he's talking about."
The Hill has contacted Ramaswamy's former campaign for further comment.
