What We Know About the Death of TikTok Star Girlalala
On November 14, TikTok creator Maurice Harrison, who was known as Girlalala online, died at the age of 21. Her boyfriend, Shanoyd Whyte Jr., was arrested the day of her death for first-degree murder with a firearm and is being held without bond.
According to a statement released by the Broward Sheriff’s Office, authorities responded to a medical call around 7 p.m. and discovered “an individual in the front passenger seat of a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds.” The individual was transported to a local medical center and pronounced dead. The victim was later identified as Harrison.
According to the police statement, Harrison was shot during an argument with her boyfriend that turned physical. In surveillance footage released by NBC, Whyte appears to walk around the back of the car while holding a gun and adjusts Harrison’s position in the passenger seat. Whyte, a former defensive lineman on the football team at Bethune-Cookman University who appeared in many of Harrison’s videos online, told detectives the two have been in a relationship for several years.
Harrison was a hairstylist located in Pompano Beach, Florida, who made beauty and lifestyle content. In the wake of her death, social-media users have resurfaced old videos that may point to a tumultuous relationship with Whyte, including one in which Harrison tells the camera she’s been punched in the face and another in which she has a cut on her nose and under her eye, per NBC.
In a GoFundMe fundraiser for Harrison’s services, her family wrote, “As a family we appreciate every prayer, kind thought, and gesture during our time of bereavement,” adding that once they finalize arrangements they will “share how you can contribute to the funeral home directly.”
