Simone Biles Doesn’t See Any ‘Shame’ in Plastic Surgery
Simone Biles isn’t done opening up about her plastic surgeries. A week after sharing that she’d undergone a lower blepharoplasty (and a few weeks after she posted about doing a flip post-boob-job), the Olympic gymnast told People she was happy to detail all the procedures she’s had done because she doesn’t want anyone to feel “shame” about the choices they make when it comes to their bodies. “It’s just who I am, and I feel like I’ve always tried to be open, honest, and relatable,” she said.
The 28-year-old emphasized that choosing to pursue breast augmentation had nothing to do with how she felt about her appearance presurgery. “It’s just something that I notice obviously a little bit more because I live in this body, and I’m just so used to it,” she said. Biles added that she got her lower bleph because she and her family have what they call the “Biles eye bags.” Every time she went to a shoot, she explained, someone would ask, “‘Oh, can we put some strips on her?’”
“I was like, ‘Oh, baby, I had 12 hours last night, these aren’t going away, these are just hereditary,’” she said. “So it’s something that I wanted to fix.”
While Biles previously nodded to her surgeries on TikTok last week, she told People that she wanted to go into further detail because “social media is not real.” “Seeing me win medals at the Olympics, that’s not relatable,” she said. “But what is relatable is how we feel about ourselves, what we talk about, what we go through, and how we share openly, honestly.”
“I also think it shows young girls that they have the right to their own choices, whatever they are, and that’s no shame added,” she went on. “I feel like nowadays with social media, you see everyone and you’re like, ‘Oh my God, how does she look so good?’”
Biles is just the latest in a line of celebrities getting honest about plastic surgery. While some have expressed mixed feelings (Bella Hadid, for example, said she regretted getting a rhinoplasty at age 14), Biles seems to care most about confidence, noting, “As long as you love yourself, that’s really all that matters.”
