Tengrinews.kz - Kazakhstan is prepared to take an active role in the reform of the United Nations, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated during his speech at the meeting of Central Asian heads of state and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Astana.
Opening the summit, the President expressed gratitude to Chancellor Scholz and the leaders of Central Asian countries for their participation and support of regional cooperation. He noted that the high-level dialogue, which began in Berlin in September 2023, has developed into a regular and trusting collaboration.
In his speech, Tokayev emphasized the importance of strengthening international security and stability. He pointed out that amid the complex geopolitical situation, issues of security and stability must remain a top priority.
"Our countries closely cooperate in a multilateral format, including within the framework of the United Nations. We intend to continue to support the efforts of this indispensable universal organization in combating terrorism, extremism, illegal migration, and climate change, as well as in peacekeeping and disarmament. Kazakhstan is also ready to actively participate in the process of UN reform. We believe that a number of developed countries, especially Germany, undoubtedly deserve a place as permanent members of the UN Security Council. I would like to take this opportunity to wish the Kyrgyz Republic success in advancing its candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the Security Council for 2027-2028. I am confident that Kyrgyzstan can make a significant contribution to enhancing stability and security in Central Asia and beyond," the President of Kazakhstan highlighted.
In conclusion, Tokayev expressed confidence that all the proposals voiced during the summit would be reflected in the joint declaration adopted by the countries.
