Tengrinews.kz - Judokas Yeldos Smetov and Gusman Kyrgyzbayev brought Kazakhstan its first medals at the Paris Olympics.
In the final bout, 31-year-old Yeldos Smetov faced French judoka Luka Mkheidze in the under 60-kilogram category. A minute before the end of the fight, Yeldos executed a waza-ari, earning Kazakhstan its first gold medal at the Paris Olympics.
Additionally, in the fight for bronze, 31-year-old Kazakh judoka Gusman Kyrgyzbayev competed against Serbian athlete Strahinja Buncic in the under 66-kilogram category. Gusman defeated his opponent early, securing Kazakhstan's third medal.
