Tengrinews.kz - A clandestine operation producing counterfeit alcohol has been uncovered in Kostanay, Kazakhstan, citing the regional Economic Investigations Department.
A group of individuals organised a clandestine workshop where counterfeit alcohol was made by mixing alcohol with water. The liquid was then poured into bottles with fake labels of various well-known vodka brands.
Illegally produced alcohol was distributed in Kostanai, Kamystinsky, Auliyekolsky and Kostanay districts of the region.
During raids, authorities seized makeshift equipment for alcohol production and bottling, over 1,000 liters of alcohol, more than 8,000 vodka bottles, and counterfeit control stamps.
Experts estimate the value of the confiscated goods at approximately 9 million tenge (18 900.00 USD).
"A pre-trial investigation under Article 214 ('Illegal entrepreneurship') and 233 ('Use of forged accounting control stamps') is underway on this fact," the Department said.
