The China Manned Space Agency's October mission schedule, announced on Monday, outlines the upcoming launch of the Shenzhou XIX spacecraft. Once the new crew arrives, the current crew aboard Shenzhou XVIII will begin their journey back to Earth.
The Shenzhou XVIII mission includes Senior Colonel Ye Guangfu, the mission commander, alongside Lieutenant Colonels Li Cong and Li Guangsu. The crew has been aboard the Tiangong station since April 26, conducting various tasks and experiments.
During the National Day holiday, the crew will continue their packed schedule, balancing work and rest. They will conduct scientific experiments, collect and organize data, and maintain essential life-support and environmental systems.
In preparation for the Shenzhou XIX crew's arrival, the astronauts will organize and prepare supplies to ensure a smooth transition. This will mark the sixth crew to take up residence on the Tiangong station.
As of Tuesday, mission commander Ye Guangfu had spent 340 days in orbit, including time from the Shenzhou XIII mission. Li Cong and Li Guangsu are on their first space mission.
On Tuesday morning, the three astronauts joined a video call with a live China Media Group broadcast, where they expressed their thoughts on China's space advancements.
"Tiangong reflects the efforts of generations of astronauts and showcases China's achievements in emerging industries and modernization," said Ye. "I feel very proud. This is a testament to the thriving space industry in the new era, and I give it a big thumbs-up."
Li Guangsu shared his appreciation, stating, "I feel very fortunate. During our five months in space, we are grateful to the many scientists who have supported us, allowing us to work and live here with peace of mind."
Li Cong added, "It's our mission and responsibility to serve our country and fulfill our space dreams. We will live up to the expectations of our country and the people. We are committed to completing our mission efficiently and successfully."
