Armenia is addressing the threat posed by Azerbaijani combat drones and loitering munitions by building a network of underground fortifications.
On June 29, Armenian sources shared photos of an underground bunker being built by the Armenian military on the border with Azerbaijan in the Syunik region.
Newly-built bunkers which meet high safety standards were built thanks to “Arar Foundation” in the bordering areas of Syunik province. pic.twitter.com/gHK8OZP6ry

During the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war, which saw Azerbaijani forces capturing a large part of the disputed region, combat drones and loitering munitions inflicted heavy losses on Armenian forces.
Azerbaijan relied mianly on Turkish-made Bayrktar-TB2 combat drones and on Israeli-made IAI Harop and Elbit SkyStriker loitering munitions.
Dozens of strikes targeted Armenian troops taking shelters in trenches and open pits which provided little to no real protection against precision-guided weapons.
Armenia’s new underground fortifications will likely provide good protection against combat drones, which are armed with small-diameter projectiles, as well as against loitering munitions with light warheads.
