Late on April 24, ISIS cells ambushed a convoy of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in the eastern countryside of Homs in central Syria.
The terrorists targeted the convoy with an improvised explosive device (IED) while it was passing in the outskirts of the town of al-Sukhnah. ISIS news agency, Amaq, said that a truck was destroyed as a result of the attack.
Later, the terrorists detonated a second IED when an engineer unit was bought in to clear the area. A number of service members were killed or injured.
A day earlier, ISIS cells attacked a unit of the SAA’s 5th Crops that was recently deployed in eastern Hama. According to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), two soldiers were killed and three others were injured during the attack.
Amaq released photos of eastern Hama attack on April 24. The photos show ISIS terrorists firing truck-mounted heavy machine guns at Syrian troops.
ISIS attacks were not limited to Homs and Hama. Early on April 25, the terrorist group opened fire at a post of the SAA in Jebel Bishri, which is located on the administrative border between Raqqa and Deir Ezzor. As a result, a soldier was killed and two others were injured, per the SOHR.
The recent attacks by the terrorist group represent a major escalation. The response of the SAA and its allies, first and foremost the Russian Aerospace Forces, will likely be fierce.
