The Houthis launched on August 1 a ballistic missile at a “military target” on Saudi Arabia’s eastern coast, for the first time ever.
The nature of the Saudi military target was not disclosed. However, the Yemeni group’s spokesman, Brig. Gen. Yahya Sari, said that the target is located in the outskirt of the port city of Dammam.
“Thanks to God, the missile force launched in today’s morning an advanced long-range ballistic missile at a key military target in Dammam, in the Saudi depth, in a new test\operation,” the spokesman said, noting that the attack was a response to the continued Saudi airstrikes and siege on Houthi-held parts of Yemen.
Brig. Gen. Sari added that the details of this operation and information about the new ballistic missile will be disclosed during an upcoming press conference.
Dammam, one of Saudi Arabia’s main ports on the Persian Gulf, is located more than 1,200km from Houthi-held areas in northwestern Yemen.
This was the second missile attack by the Houthis in the last few hours. The first attack targeted a military parade of Saudi-backed forces in the southern Yemeni city of Aden, killing more than 40 fighters and commanders.
