Britney Spears' Reps Share An Unexpected Update About Her Sons After Her DUI Arrest
Britney Spears was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) on March 4, and she is leaning on a surprising support system to help her get through it.
The “Oops I Did It Again” singer was arrested in the evening on March 4 and was released early in the morning on March 5, according to Ventura Sheriff’s Office arrest records, per TMZ. She was also taken to a hospital after being pulled over to determine her blood alcohol content.
After her arrest became public, her rep shared a statement with People, which included an unexpected update on her sons Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden, 19, whom she shares with ex Kevin Federline.
“This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable,” the rep said. “Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.”
In the statement, Spears’ rep said she is planning on spending time with her sons, whom she has had a tumultuous relationship with through the years. “Her boys are going to be spending time with her,” they continued. “Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being.”
Spears has been working hard to mend her relationship with her sons since she was released from her 13-year conservatorship in 2021.
In Federline’s memoir, You Thought You Knew, released in Oct. 2025, he wrote that Spears allegedly used to stand over her sons in the middle of the night “with a knife in her hand.” He also said that her mental health was spiraling, writing, “It’s become impossible to pretend everything’s OK. From where I sit, the clock is ticking, and we’re getting close to the 11th hour. Something bad is going to happen if things don’t change, and my biggest fear is that our sons will be left holding the pieces.”

The “Circus” singer responded to Federline’s “constant gaslighting” on X, writing, “I have always pleaded and screamed to have a life with my boys. Relationships with teenage boys is complex. I have felt demoralized by this situation and have always asked and almost begged for them to be a part of my life.”
Spears then revealed that at that point in time, she has only seen one son for 45 minutes in the past five years, and the other with four visits over five years.
“I am the only one who genuinely gets hurt here,” she added. “I will always love them and if you really know me, you won’t pay attention to the tabloids of my mental health and drinking. … I speak on this because I have had enough and any real woman would do the same.”
Spears is set to appear in court on May 4.
