Amanda Seyfried Shares Daughter's Reaction To 'Jarring' Fan Interactions: 'She’s Just A Little Bit Protective'
Amanda Seyfried is used to getting recognized, but her 8-year-old daughter has a very different experience with her mom’s fame and feels “protective” during what can feel like “jarring” fan interactions in public.
In a February 2 cover interview with NET-A-PORTER, Seyfried shared that her firstborn with husband Thomas Sadoski, her daughter Nina, is learning to share her famous mom with the world.
“[My children] know that I’m a recognized person in the world, that I’m an actor and that me being on TV is very normal for them,” Seyfried, who also has a 5-year-old son named Thomas, said. “And they also know that they’re safe at home and have their own privacy – and that’s everything.”
However, that doesn’t mean they are completely immune to their mom’s fame, especially when they leave their upstate New York farm and visit the city.
“It is a bit jarring when we get to the city and people are stopping me on the street, but luckily my daughter seems to have an OK relationship with that,” the 40-year-old star of The Housemaid continued. “I think she’s more curious about it. She does have an eagle eye, so if we’re in a room full of people, she’ll notice when people are taking pictures of me. It’s not that she’s uncomfortable, she’s just a little bit protective of me in that way.”
These moments prompt conversations about fame and privacy. “And I’ll let her know that it’s OK, but thanks for looking out,” Seyfried shared. “And it’s great to have that communication. Just because it’s comfortable for me and I’m used to it does not mean that she’s comfortable and she should be used to it. … it’s my life and isn’t hers, but it’s starting to become hers in some ways.”
The Testament of Ann Lee star has always been protective of her kids, which is a big part of why she moved to a farm. She told SheKnows in October 2024 that she brought her 15-year-old dog Finn, who has a “grounding energy,” upstate with the family and now, they raise all kinds of rescue animals on the farm. “The farm just is tenfold. It’s amazing. There’s so much peace that comes in from mother nature in general,” she told us. “It really is why I feel sane.”
“Nobody follows me. When I lived in LA, there was a time when there were paparazzi around a lot and that just doesn’t exist upstate,” she continued. “I don’t have to worry about it at all. It doesn’t have to be a one tiny fraction of a thought for me. It’s so much privacy, it’s insane. I love it. I wouldn’t have it any other way and I’m so grateful that [my kids] don’t have to worry about that either.”
