While Hilary Swank keeps her personal life on the more private side, especially as a mom, she’s now being vulnerable about this common postpartum struggle.
In a recent interview with People, while she was discussing her role as Chief Innovation Officer for HealthyBaby, she also talked about how hard it was to breastfeed her twins at first.
“I never had a singleton, so I’ve only known two, but I was trying to breastfeed and trying to breastfeed two at the same time was impossible for me,” Swank said to the outlet about tandem feeding. “I feel really, really blessed that I was able to actually breastfeed at all. That doesn’t always work out like that. We [didn’t] know if that’s going to be a possibility. And I really wanted to be able to do that personally.”
Now, breastfeeding can be very difficult, especially for new moms. But being a new mom and tandem feeding? Doctors agree that that can be even harder, but we love that Swank is being so honest and open about it.
“Tandem nursing can help your toddler ease into the transition of having a baby in the house and reduce [feelings of] jealousy,” lactation expert Jada Shapiro, CLSC, said to The Bump, so we totally understand why Swank tried so hard to make it happen.
In the same interview, Swank also talked about how everything changed when she became a mom. “You don’t put yourself first as a mom. You have these new people and they take your priority. When you come out of it, it’s a lot. You’ve never done it before. There’s no blueprint for it. You’re running on empty and you’re trying to trust your instincts, and it’s hard to do that when you’re exhausted,” she said.
For those who don’t know, after two years of dating, Swank and Philip Schneider married in Aug 2019. Fast forward to Oct 2022, the two announced that they were expecting their first child together. In fact, they were expecting their first two children together!
On April 9, 2023, Swank confirmed they welcomed their twins. She posted a picture of both of her twins in her arms with the caption, “It wasn’t easy. But boy (and girl!) was it worth it. ???????????????????? Happy Easter! ???????? Posting from pure Heaven. ????????”
