Having a new baby in the house is beautiful and emotional. Those tiny snores and little coos are so perfect — how can you not think about the miracle of life when you hear them? Olivia Munn is feeling extra vulnerable right now as she snuggles with her newborn daughter Méi June, who was born after Munn’s fight with breast cancer. You’re going to need a whole box of tissues to get through her latest post.
The X-Men: Apocalypse star, who shares Méi and 2-year-old son Malcolm with husband John Mulaney, shared a sweet snap of her and Méi on Instagram. Munn looks beautiful in a pink silk shirt and jeans as she holds her baby girl on her shoulder. As she held her girl, she was thinking about how different her life is compared to last year.
“This time last year I was recovering from my fourth surgery and now I’m hanging with my baby girl. ????????,” she wrote. Can you imagine? She was fighting for her life last year and now she is happy, healthy, and holding her new baby. I’m bawling!
Munn opened up about her breast cancer journey in her caption in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. “Last year I was diagnosed with bilateral Luminal B breast cancer,” she explained. “There were many people integral to saving my life but it was my OB-GYN @drthaisaliabadi who set me on the path to survival. She used the Tyrer-Cuzick Risk Assessment Test to calculate my risk of getting breast cancer. My high score led me down a road of many tests that resulted in a cancer diagnosis.”
“To everyone who is battling or has battled cancer, in whatever form, I send you all my love.
????????????” she added. As a breast cancer survivor myself, I understand completely the elation that comes after you’ve finished treatment and are ready for the next phase of life. I’m so happy for Munn!
In March, The Newsroom alum revealed that she was diagnosed with breast cancer, had several surgeries including a double mastectomy, a hysterectomy, and an oophorectomy. She froze her eggs before treatment and welcomed Méi via surrogate.
“This journey has made me realize how grateful I am to have options for not only fighting cancer, but also having more children if we want, because I know a lot of people don’t have those options,” she told Vogue in May.
Many people were moved by Munn’s Instagram post. “What a difference a year makes. So happy for you!” one person said. Another wrote, “I was very recently diagnosed with breast cancer and am having a double mastectomy two weeks from today. Reading about your experience has made me less apprehensive about what I’m about to go through (I just started to feel like myself again after having a baby last year!), so, thank you! I’m happy to see you enjoying this wonderful time with your sweet baby girl ❤️”
“Fellow survivor, wishing you and your beautiful family the very best!❤️” someone else said.
Munn’s post is a beautiful reminder of appreciating life every day. And, of course, don’t forget to schedule your yearly mammogram and complete your monthly breast checks!
