Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds have had an incredibly successful summer with her movie, It Ends With Us, earning over $245 million globally, and his film, Deadpool & Wolverine, hitting the $1 billion mark. Yet with these tremendous achievements comes some controversy — her alleged feud with co-star and director Justin Baldoni and Reynolds’ rewrite timeline of the crucial scene in his wife’s script has Hollywood buzzing.
It’s hard to be one of the top power couples in the entertainment industry because there are going to be some critics who question their success, or how they achieved such A-list status. “The sheer level of ambition between the two of them is blatantly obvious but what people in the industry are whispering about is their ruthlessness in achieving their goals,” an insider explained to Life & Style. “It hasn’t gone unnoticed that they’re willing to throw their weight around when it comes to getting what they want.”
The issue comes down to the allegations that Reynolds rewrote a scene in It Ends With Us and Lively reportedly passed it off as an improvisational moment. Screenwriter Christy Hall told SheKnows that she was not aware the script was undergoing some tweaks by the 47-year-old actor, and ET confirmed on Aug. 27 when Baldoni learned about the rewrites. “ET can confirm that Ryan Reynolds writing a scene for IT ENDS WITH US that made it into the final cut of the film did indeed come as news to Justin Baldoni, who found out only after Blake Lively revealed it in a red carpet interview,” they wrote on X.
That news has left a sour taste in some people’s mouths because of Reynolds and Lively’s alleged ruthless ambitions. “People are genuinely afraid of going against them, which of course only adds to their power. They might come across as being sweet as apple pie, but make no mistake, anyone that tries to stand in their way is almost guaranteed to get steamrolled,” the Life & Style source added.
The other major issues still lingering from the It Ends With Us fallout include the status of the sequel, It Starts With Us. The studio would love to get it made and Baldoni holds the rights to the book, but the feud is ongoing. The Writers Guild of America has also not responded to allegations that Reynolds might have altered the script while the writers’ strike was happening last summer. A source close to Reynolds claimed to Variety that he tackled the script in April ahead of the work stoppage, but the dynamic duo has remained relatively silent about the continuing controversy only deepening the mystery.
