Matthew Perry passed away on Oct. 28, 2023, from the acute effects of ketamine. While the death was ruled accidental, the Los Angeles Police Department partnered up with the Drug Enforcement Administration and postal inspectors at the U.S. Postal Service to try and find the Friends star’s supplier.
The investigation has been ongoing, and now People‘s law enforcement sources are confirming that it’s taken a serious turn. With the inquiry “nearing its conclusion,” the insider believes that “multiple people” could be arrested in the case. The LAPD will not be making the final decision, that’s up to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, per the outlet. The investigation has been going on for six months so far, and reportedly Charlie Sheen’s ex-wife, Brooke Mueller, has been questioned in the case, according to In Touch.
The outlet reported that Mueller has been “completely cooperative” in the case but has also “hired lawyers” after having “multiple meetings with law enforcement.” An insider added, “She’s being tight-lipped about the situation, but her iPhone and laptop have been seized by authorities.” Again, no charges have been filed, nor has Mueller been implicated in the situation.
Perry lost his life eight months ago after being found unresponsive in his hot tub at his Los Angeles area home. The presence of ketamine, a surgical drug often used to also treat depression, anxiety, and pain, in his body didn’t match the prescribed treatment from his doctors. His last administered dosage was a week and a half before his death and would not have been present at those levels on the day of his passing.
Perry’s death has been difficult for the Friends cast to deal with, especially Jennifer Aniston, who was close to the 54-year-old actor. Courteney Cox is reportedly stepping up and helping her BFF navigate the grieving process. “A lot of people don’t realize how close Jen and Matthew were because she didn’t broadcast how much she stuck by him,” a Closer Weekly insider shared. “She was one of the only people that would still reach out to him even when he was deep in the grip of his addiction and pushing everyone away.”
The pending outcome of the investigation could bring up old wounds for Aniston and her castmates and make the grieving process that much more difficult. It’s a loss that still weighs heavy on their hearts, and hopefully, there will be justice for Perry in the end.
