Former President Donald Trump slammed a key swing state ravaged by Hurricane Helene with a series of pre-dawn claims about Vice President Kamala Harris and the Biden Administration.
Trump addressed North Carolina voters in a Truth Social post published about 2:45 a.m. in which he claimed Federal Emergency Management Agency funds have been directed away from disaster recovery and toward the boogeyman of his campaign. He offered no evidence for the claims which have been slapped down by multiple observers.
"The GREAT people of North Carolina are being stood up by Harris and Biden, who are giving almost all of the FEMA money to Illegal Migrants in what is now considered to be the WORST rescue operation in the history of the U.S." Trump wrote.
Trump has told a series of debunked claims about the federal government's response to Hurricane Helene in the week since it hit the southern coast and claimed more than 200 lives in Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas.

The Republican presidential nominee falsely claimed Harris and President Joe Biden were denying aid to states that don't support their political party — as former aides say he did in 2018 — and that FEMA funds had been misdirected, which attorney George Conway on Friday said came out of the playbook of Nazi Dictator Adolf Hitler and which CNN called a falsehood.
"There is zero basis for claiming that FEMA disaster assistance money was stolen — by anyone, let alone Harris personally — for the housing of migrants," CNN wrote in a fact check.
"Congress appropriated $650 million in the 2024 fiscal year to fund a program that helps state and local governments house migrants — and instructed US Customs and Border Protection to transfer that $650 million to FEMA to administer the program. But this $650 million pot is entirely distinct from FEMA’s pot of disaster relief funds."
North Carolina has become a political battleground after CNN reported that Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, the Republican gubernatorial nominee, has been linked to an adult content site called Nude Africa and comments praising Nazism, slavery and trans pornography.
On Monday morning it was Harris that Trump claimed represented the greatest threat to the state.
"NORTH CAROLINA HAS BEEN VIRTUALLY ABANDONED BY KAMALA!!!" Trump wrote. "DROP HER LIKE SHE DROPPED YOU - VOTE FOR PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP. MAGA2024!"
Harris has held multiple rallies in North Carolina and visited the state Sunday to check on its hurricane recovery.
