Politico is reporting that Republicans are "starting to panic" because of a big fundraising gap they see emerging with their Democratic rivals.
As Politico notes, Republicans have been making the case to donors in recent weeks that they need tens of millions dollars more to remain competitive with Democrats in this fall's election, especially after the rise of Vice President Kamala Harris to the top of the Democratic ticket led to a surge in enthusiasm and donations from Democratic voters and big-name donors.
"The only thing preventing us from having a great night in November is the massive financial disparity our party currently faces,” Jason Thielman, the executive director of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, told Politico. “We are on a trajectory to win the majority, but unless something changes drastically in the next six weeks, we will lose winnable seats.”
The publication added that many Republicans are going public with their concerns about fundraising because they believe there is still time to close the gap ahead of the election.

However, Politico also reported that time is running short with the election a little more than two months away.
"More than a half dozen vulnerable Republican members trailed their Democratic opponents in cash-on-hand at the end of June — a dangerous place for an incumbent," Politico notes. "That includes several GOP members who hold seats that Biden won in 2020, such as Reps. Mike Garcia (R-CA.), Marc Molinaro (R-NY) and Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ), making them uniquely vulnerable."
The situation is so serious, wrote Politico, that Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT) even made a public plea with GOP donors to give more during the Republican National Convention earlier this summer.
"Right now the left-wing billionaires are massively outspending us — that’s what’s keeping me up at night," he said.
