The president and CEO of the NAACP Derrick Johnson hit former President Donald Trump over the Republican nominee's recent "Black job" remarks during the opening night of the Democratic National Convention.
Derrick Johnson started his speech to applause as he told the audience in Chicago, "Good evening. I'm Derrick Johnson, president and CEO of the NAACP, and I'm here to do my Black job."
The jabbing opener comes after Trump earned jeers from many even within his own party when he said during the June debate that President Joe Biden has been "allowing" migrants to flood over the border, and "they're taking Black jobs and they're taking Hispanic jobs."
"Since the founding of our nation we have been on an unending march to protect this imperfect union," said Johnson. "Tonight we celebrate the power of the collective. Of what is possible when we are all in for all people."
He urged the audience not to forget the history that "proceeded this moment."

Trump's remark has earned jeers from Democrats and Republicans, including MAGA ally Dr. Ben Carson.
"Well, I know what he was talking about," Carson said following the debate between Trump and Biden. "He's talking about people at the lower end of the economic scale, and that those frequently unskilled jobs or taken by people who come in here illegally, making them unavailable for our people. That's basically what he's saying. And probably could have been phrased in a better way."
Michael Steele, former chair of the Republican National Committee, also condemned the language.
Simply put, the former RNC chair told the convicted felon ex-president to "shut the hell up."
Johnson earned more cheers on Monday as he said, "We must all understand: Black history is American history."
"And in this historic moment, we will write the next chapter together," he concluded.
