Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday reacted to the resignation of Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle by claiming that it was "an honor" for him to survive an assassination attempt on his life earlier this month.
Posting on his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote that "the Biden/Harris Administration did not properly protect me, and I was forced to take a bullet for Democracy. IT WAS MY GREAT HONOR TO DO SO!"
Cheatle in recent days came under bipartisan pressure to resign after she gave evasive answers during congressional testimony about the security failures that allowed an attempted assassin to come within inches of potentially taking Trump's life.

“As your Director, I take full responsibility for the security lapse,” Cheatle wrote in her resignation letter. “In light of recent events, it is with a heavy heart that I have made the difficult decision to step down as your Director.”
The attempt on Trump's life, which dominated headlines last week, has since been overshadowed by President Joe Biden's decision to drop out of the 2024 presidential election and throw his support behind Vice President Kamala Harris, who has since racked up endorsements across all sectors of the Democratic Party.
