Former President Donald Trump's attorney Alina Habba proudly boasted on X of her own speaking slot at the Republican National Convention on Thursday evening.
"Excited to speak at the @GOP tonight at 8 PM Eastern!" wrote Habba, who defended Trump in several key battles including the E. Jean Carroll defamation trial in Manhattan, and was often scolded by the court for not following proper procedure. "I'll be sharing a different side of President Trump, shedding light on the man behind the headlines. Looking forward to a beautiful evening together." She accompanied this with a picture of herself holding her fist in the air.
Commenters on social media, including some legal experts, raked her over the coals.

"She will give tips to the faithful about how to offer exhibits into evidence," wrote Never Trump conservative attorney George Conway. "She’d actually need to know how to do that first…" replied MSNBC legal commentator Katie Phang, to which Conway responded, "I thought Judge Kaplan taught her how." Judge Lewis Kaplan was known for a number of testy clashes with Habba during the Carroll proceedings.
"Maybe you should go back to law school!" wrote the account @BruteForceSwim. "You are a lawyer who doesn’t know how to present evidence at a trial."
"When you have to pad out your convention with family and your own lawyers, just to keep the grift alive…" wrote the account @marcuscorrigan. "Let’s hear from the lawyers he stopped paying… that would be interesting."
"So proud of the convicted felon," wrote the account @AzJ2rk. "Does she realize Trump & Vance believe women should stay in abusive marriages, & should die if they have complications w pregnancy? Does she realize republicans really do not respect her bc she’s female?"
Once Habba actually took the stage, the mockery continued.
"Lmao," wrote Phang, in response to her claims that all of the criminal charges against Trump were fabricated and that "we are winning."
