Republican sources gossiping to the Daily Beast about Sen. J.D. Vance’s (R-OH) chances of becoming Donald Trump’s vice president invoked the fury of his famously triggered spokesman Wednesday.
The outlet cited three unnamed Trump camp insiders in a report that claimed Vance’s chances were doomed because he didn’t have the backing of core MAGA donors.
But they said senior adviser Susie Wiles was keeping him in the running because Vance was seen as her “little pet.”
Trump spokesman Steven Cheung reacted with fury.
“Susie, and the rest of the campaign team, have never tried to influence the choice for vice president,” she said, saying the VP choice “belongs to President Trump and he will make a decision at the place and time of his choosing.”
Then he went off the rails at the Beast’s loose-lipped sources.
“Anyone who thinks otherwise,” he said, is “obviously out of the loop and has no idea what is actually going on.”
He described those speaking out as, “bottom-feeding parasites” who “do nothing more than to leech of [sic] drama and fake news because they have to disassociate themselves from their sad, miserable existence.”

Cheung has a reputation as a firebrand who is easily triggered when asked for comment. Most recently, he called Joe Biden a “disgusting human being” after the president made comments on July 4.
The Beast’s story had claimed Vance had many enemies in the GOP world who saw his credentials as being slim.
He “hasn’t done anything meaningful,” they said. “He’s just gone on Fox.”
But they’re also uneasy by his association with Wiles, the source said.
“The person who’s had some outside influence here is Susie Wiles,” the source said. “And she certainly wants Vance. Vance is like her little pet.”
