NEW YORK, N.Y. (PIX11) -- One New Yorker is making it easier to find things to do without breaking the bank.
Rebeka Getty, the creator behind the social media account NYC for Free, launched a new Google Maps layer showing all the free events popping up weekly throughout the city.
The map uses emojis to pinpoint events like free food, movie screenings, giveaways, self care events, parties and more. It will be updated weekly on Wednesdays along with the NYC for Free newsletter.
It’s the latest extension of Rebeka’s ongoing project that launched on Instagram in 2019. After positive feedback from fellow New Yorkers and visitors, Rebeka expanded the social media account to a website, making it easier to find free fun things to do in the city.
Maps were previously included in the NYC for Free newsletter, but Rebeka made the switch to Google Maps to make it more accessible for when people are on the go. A calendar of events can also be found online to help with planning out where to do your pop-up hopping.
