Phillies Injury Updates: Brandon Marsh and Trea Turner to return imminently?

The Latest Phillies Injury Updates

• Brandon Marsh (right hamstring strain)
• Status: 10-day injured list
• The Phillies placed Marsh on the 10-day injured list on June 3. Without committing to a timeline, Marsh did seem optimistic about returning in relatively short order, saying he was “looking for a pretty quick turnaround.” When asked to give a grade on Marsh’s hamstring strain, Thomson joked “half,” giving you an idea of how mild it was.
• Marsh is beginning a rehab assignment with Double-A Reading on June 13, the Phillies announced. Thomson told reporters in Boston — including Brooke Destra of NBC Sports Philadelphia — that the plan is to have Marsh DH Thursday, and then play center field for either seven or nine innings Friday. Thomson didn’t rule out Marsh rejoining the Phillies at some point in Baltimore this weekend, but said “we’ll see how it goes.” (Updated by Tim Kelly on June 13.)

• Trea Turner (left hamstring strain)
• Status: 10-day injured list
• Turner was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain on May 4. He declined to reveal what grade the strain is, but said he expects to miss “six weeks or so.”
• The 30-year-old shortstop told NBC Sports Philadelphia‘s Corey Seidman in London that “I prefer not to do it,” in regards to going on a rehab assignment. Nick Castellanos and Bryce Harper are among the veteran players who have returned from injuries in recent seasons without going on a rehab stint.
• MLB.com‘s Paul Casella wrote Wednesday that while the homestand the Phillies will begin on Monday “seemed like the most likely time for Turner to rejoin the club,” this weekend’s series at Camden Yards isn’t off the table. Thomson, per the article, did acknowledge that Turner won’t be doing a rehab stint before being activated. (Updated by Tim Kelly on June 13.)

• J.T. Realmuto (right knee surgery)
• Status: 10-day injured list, retroactive to June 10
• The Phillies announced on June 11 that Realmuto had been placed on the injured list with right knee pain. He underwent successful right knee meniscectomy surgery on June 12. At the time of his placement on the IL, Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski estimated the team would be without Realmuto for “about a month” following the completion of his procedure. • Yunior Marte (right shoulder inflammation)
• Status: 15-day injured list, retroactive to May 1
• Marte “felt a little something” after his scoreless appearance against the San Diego Padres on April 28, Thomson said. After the feeling went away, it really “flared up” during his appearance against the Los Angeles Angels on April 30. He wasn’t available during the final game of the Angels series, and ultimately was placed on the injured list on May 3.
• Marte began a rehab assignment on May 25 with Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He allowed two hits and an unearned run on 15 pitches in one inning of work.
• Marte is still with Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Per Thomson, he’s scheduled to pitch an inning on Tuesday, another inning on Thursday and two innings on Sunday. (Updated by Bailey Digh on June 4.)

• Luis Ortiz (right shoulder inflammation)
• Status: 15-day injured list
• Ortiz has been on the injured list since March 31 with a left ankle sprain. He has progressed from that injury, even making two rehab appearances for Single-A Clearwater. However, the most recent came on April 25. That’s because he was shut down for a period with right shoulder inflammation.
• Ortiz threw a bullpen session on Tuesday, according to Thomson. (Updated by Bailey Digh on June 4.)

• Michael Rucker (right hand arterial vasospasm)
• Status: 60-day injured list
• Rucker threw a bullpen session on May 14, and is set to throw another one on May 17.
• Rucker was transferred from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list on June 3. (Updated by Bailey Digh on June 4.)

• Dylan Covey (right shoulder strain)
• Status: 60-day injured list
• Covey is still dealing with his shoulder strain, and was backed off of throwing. As he was doing some conditioning work, he also slightly pulled a hamstring. He was in Philadelphia on May 8 seeing team doctors, but was expected to head back to Clearwater on May 10.
• Covey was transferred from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list on June 1. (Updated by Bailey Digh on June 4.)
