Phillies Injury Updates: Josh Harrison placed on 10-day IL

The Latest Phillies Injury Updates

• Josh Harrison (right wrist contusion)
• Status: 10-day injured list
• The Phillies announced on Wednesday that Harrison has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a right wrist contusion. The move is retroactive to July 9, when Harrison jammed the wrist sliding into a base in Miami.
• A corresponding move has not yet been announced by the team, but the 26th spot on the active roster will be filled before the second half kicks off against the San Diego Padres on Friday. (Last Updated July 12) — Nathan Ackerman

• Noah Song (low back strain)
• Status: MLB 60-day injured list — Began rehab assignment with Low-A Clearwater on June 28, transferred to Double-A Reading on July 12.
• Song’s rehab assignment was transferred to Double-A Reading on Wednesday, the Phillies announced. The righty allowed four hits, a run and five walks on seven strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings with Clearwater.
• Song, a Rule 5 pick, has to spend at least 90 days on the Phillies active roster in order for the team to have the ability to option him to the minor leagues next year. A source told the Inquirer’s Scott Lauber that Song’s 90-day minimum stint on the active roster can spill over to next season. Once Song hits 90 days, he is eligible to be optioned to the minor leagues. If the Phillies bring him up to the majors and need to take him off the roster before he hits 90 days on the active roster, Song will be placed on waivers. If he clears, the Phillies are required to offer him back to the Red Sox for $50,000. (Last Updated July 12) — Nathan Ackerman

• Jose Alvarado (left elbow inflammation)
• Status: 15-day injured list
• The Phillies placed Alvarado on the 15-day injured list with elbow inflammation, retroactive to July 7. It’s the second stint on the IL this season for the hard-throwing reliever, who missed over a month earlier this campaign as he dealt with inflammation in the same elbow. RHP Andrew Bellatti was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take Alvarado’s place.
• Alvarado told Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia that during his first IL stint this season, he had inflammation directly in the elbow, but now it’s in his forearm. The good news is that Alvarado added that this doesn’t bother him while he’s pitching, but still noted that there is indeed some swelling. (Last Updated July 9) — Tim Kelly

• Andrew Painter (right UCL sprain) 
• Status: 60-day MiLB injured list 
• Rob Thomson told reporters in Miami on July 8 that tests results showed healing in Andrew Painter’s right elbow. The Phillies paused Painter’s throwing program and ordered additional testing after the right-hander reported discomfort following a July 6 bullpen session.
• Painter will remain shut down from throwing until the discomfort subsides. In a tweet, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com added that the resumption of his throwing program “could happen relatively soon.” (Last Updated July 8) — Destiny Lugardo

• Seranthony Domínguez (left oblique strain)
• Status: 15-day injured list — Expected back after All-Star break.
• Seranthony Domínguez reportedly threw a bullpen session on July 5. He is expected to throw another one on Saturday in Miami. He’ll likely require a rehab stint before returning. That will happen after the All-Star break. (Last Updated July 6) — Destiny Lugardo

• Bryce Harper (recovering from Tommy John surgery)
• Status: Back as DH, still building up as a thrower to be able to play in the field.
• Thomson loved what he saw out of Bryce Harper’s infield work with teammates in Chicago. The Phillies manager won’t put an official timeline on Harper’s return to the field, but when asked how close Harper is to being able to do everything he needs to do to play first base in a game, Thomson said, “He’s pretty close.” Dave Dombrowski hinted to reporters in Chicago that he’ll likely be the Phillies’ starting first baseman before the Aug. 1 trade deadline.
• “I think everybody has to understand too that the speed of the game is a little bit different than just taking ground balls,” Thomson said on June 30. “There are a whole bunch of situations that come up that he’s got to work through and he’s got to learn from mistakes because they’re going to happen, trust me. • Rhys Hoskins (torn ACL)
• Status: 60-day injured list — Out for 7-9 months
• The Phillies first baseman underwent successful surgery the morning of Thursday, March 30. The club officially announced that his recovery timeline is seven to nine months. Hoskins tore his ACL while trying to field a ground ball during spring training.
• Hoskins checked in with reporters on June 7. He’s off crutches and is about two weeks away from being cleared to start jogging. It’s a lofty goal, but Hoskins is aiming to return to the lineup as a designated hitter at the beginning October for a potential playoff run. (Last Updated June 8) — Destiny Lugardo
