ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- Michelle Hinchey has won in the 41st District of the State Senate. The Associated Press has called the race for Hinchey over Republican Patrick Sheehan.
The 41st District includes Greene and Columbia Counties and parts of Ulster and Dutchess Counties.
Hinchey was first elected senator of District 41 in 2020 and is the state's Agriculture Committee chair. In her first term, 85 of her bills have been signed into law, focusing on expanding rural healthcare and housing, addressing the climate crisis, and protecting farmland.
She was recognized as the Rural Housing Coalition's 2022 Advocate of the Year, the American Red Cross' 2023 Legislator of the Year, and more. In her reelection, Hinchey plans to continue addressing New York's affordability, protecting reproductive rights for women, and helping rural community members and families.
Hinchey's opponent, Republican Patrick Sheehan, would have focused on the economy and identifying state actions.
