SCOTIA, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A local fire department has some new equipment that could save lives. The Scotia Fire Department recently purchased new chest compression devices, which perform CPR.
The department previously had just one device that's about five years old. The fire chief said the device has proven to be useful.
"The human can only do CPR continuously for so long, so this device takes the human out of the compression portion of the CPR," Scotia Fire Chief Daniel Wood said.
The chief said the new devices will allow the department to have a device in all three of their vehicles. They previously had to rotate the one original device.
