NORTH ADAMS, Mass. (NEWS10) -- The North Adams Police Department announced that an arrest has been made following an armed robbery incident at the Walmart on Curran Memorial Highway. The suspect, whose name was not released, is facing numerous charges.
Around 7 a.m. on Friday, police received a call from Walmart employees reporting they had just been robbed at gunpoint. Workers told police that the suspect allegedly brandished a firearm from a backpack and stole money from a cashier before fleeing in a red pickup truck toward Church Street.
Officers arriving to the area located the suspect and engaged them in a vehicle pursuit before the person stopped the truck near Hillside Cemetery and took off on foot. Police caught the suspect after a short chase and took them into custody.
According to police, the person was found to have a duffle bag that contained an AR-15 pistol, a 30-round magazine with 17 rounds inside, and $5,400 in cash. Officers also learned that the truck was reportedly stolen out of Bennington, Vermont.
One officer was injured during the arrest but is expected to make a full recovery. The suspect now faces the following charges:
