KINGSTON, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- On Tuesday, an Ulster County grand jury indicted William Knox, Jr., 54, for attempted murder in the second degree, amongst other charges. Knox is being held at the Ulster County Jail without bail.

The indictment alleges that Knox, on June 19, 2024, followed a female adult victim into Broadway, knocked her down and repeatedly struck her in the head with a hammer until she was unable to move. Knox then left her lying in the middle of Broadway.
"The rapid advancement of this case from crime to courtroom demonstrates our unwavering commitment to justice," Chief Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Culmone-Mills, said in a statement. "Let it be known that those who perpetrate violence in our county will be met with the full force of justice."
Knox will be represented by Mark Formichelli of Dutchess County Public Defender's Office. The case will be prosecuted by Culmone-Mills.
