ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- Albany Capital Center will host the inaugural USA Powerlifting Open World Cup, which starts on Saturday at 8 a.m. The competition will run into Sunday, with competitors from 22 states looking to qualify for other national powerlifting competitions.
Saturday afternoon lifting starts at 2 p.m. The competition will begin on Sunday at 9 a.m., with afternoon lifting at 2 p.m. Spectator admission is $20, and a full schedule of events can be found on the Bent Bar Powerlifting website.
The competition is in Albany for the first time, and competitors are looking to set new national and world records for powerlifting. USA Powerlifting is a national organization that oversees the Open World Cup and other lifting events, including squats, bench presses, and deadlifts.
Albany Capital Center General Manager Shannon Licygiewicz said they are looking forward to the competition and welcoming powerlifters to the Capital Region. "What's extremely exciting is that the incredible accomplishments of powerlifters taking place here in the Capital Region will lead to success at future USA Powerlifting events on the national stage," Licygiewicz said.
