COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – Ohio is among the top 10 states where the most current NFL players were born, an analysis found.
Rainbet.com, a gamers casino and sportsbook, analyzed ESPN's database of over 2,700 NFL players to find the most common birthplaces. That figure does go beyond the total for 53 roster positions across 32 NFL teams but may account for roster moves and include some players who recently became inactive.
Ohio had the seventh-most NFL athletes who were born in the state, at 99 players. Among the NFL stars born in the state were Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs, Denzel Ward of the Cleveland Browns and Russell Wilson of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The state home to the most NFL players was Texas, with 304 born there. Houston was the most common birth city, with 37 players, including Steven Sims of the Houston Texans and Ed Oliver of the Buffalo Bills.
Florida ranked as the state home to the second-most NFL players at 287. Completing the top 5 is California (278), Georgia (221) and North Carolina (105).
The states home to the least current NFL athletes were Vermont (0), Maine (1), New Hampshire (1), Rhode Island (1) and Alaska (2).
